Typical Mini Cooper Problems

The Mini Cooper is a genuinely dependable vehicle, yet it has a lot of common issues. Here are some seen more frequently.

Clutch Failure

This was a common issue with the first and second generations of the Mini Cooper. The usual cause was hard driving, and it could happen early, even under 20,000 miles.

Transmission Failure

The first generation Minis were infamous for a failure in their automatic transmission. Forced by a lawsuit, BMW offered a warranty specific to this transmission issue. The warranty coverage lasted for eight years or 150,000 miles, whichever occurred first.

Water Pump and Thermostat Housing Leaking

The first two generations of the Mini often had issues with the leaking of the water pump. The water pumps frequently must be supplanted at more than 50,000 miles. The thermostat housing in the second generation Minis was made of plastic, which would generally separate after some time.

Radiator Support Issues

The radiator support is composed of plastic. The radiator support is situated in a low spot at the front of the car. It is exceptionally sensitive and just hitting a short curb can damage it.

Electric Power Steering Pump Issues

The electric power steering pumps were failing so often that BMW ordered a recall.  The problem is primarily caused by either low power steering fluid or a glitch of the electric cooling fan.
